Cloud 9 Ranch, Caulfield, MO

Traveled US160 from Poplar Bluff to Cloud 9, 140 miles of great motorcycle road and I enjoyed every hill and curve and still made it here on time. Sue said we averaged 35 mph and she really enjoyed the ride, ha.

The first part of the trip, until we exited the Mark Twain National Forest there were at least 4 or 5 pickups or cars at each trailer or structure, some still had their wheels and some didn't and not more than one would run. In that section I had to stop or slow down, or blow my horn for the dogs in the road mostly hound dogs. Saw one hunt club for fox & coyote so I guess the dogs had a good home somewhere.

One thing I noticed every 1/4 mile were critters dead on the road, squirrels, possums, armadillos, coons, and others, in various stages of squish.

Josh would love this campground there are 600 sites in 5 separate campground areas and covers 10 sq. miles or 6300 acres, with ATV trails everywhere.

Wednesday, September 12, 2007 This morning after our walk we went to West Plains which is 18 miles and got fuel, Wal-Mart, and lunch at Jimmie’s Walleye & Catfish another good old boy restaurant and it was great, we had gone by earlier in the day and could tell it would be good by the number of pickups and cars there for breakfast.

Humming Bird

Even though it is raining it hasn't slowed the humming birds down, they are on schedule with the filling of the feeder, just shy of 2 cups 4 times a day. They are going to miss us Monday.

It has been raining all morning and is much needed, the lack of rain here has been so bad that a lot of large trees that have survived for years have died.

Peoples Creek, MO

We are about 15 miles form Poplar Bluff, MO and is still warm (hot) is suppose to cool down tomorrow for a while.

There are a lot of humming birds at our feeder, talk about a quickie I caught a couple of them mating, they do this in flight, it slows them down and they can hardly stay airborne.

Friday
August 31, went to dinner in downtown Wappapello at the Fisherman's Net (good) then we took our lawn chairs around back to the out door stage where they had a Bluegrass Band and listened to them for awhile. The campground is filled up now for the Labor Day weekend, there are only 18 sites in this section.

Saturday
September 1, today is the day of the big 25 mile yard sale, yesterday when we went to Poplar Bluff they were starting.

Tuesday
September 4, we went into Poplar Bluff to do the laundry, Wal-Mart and eat lunch on the way home at Myrtle's Place, Backalley BBQ in downtown, very good food & priced good also.
Today is suppose to be the last hot day.

Hot Hot Hot

Wednesday we just hung around in the air conditioning most of the day.

Thursday we went to Hancock Fabric in Paducah, Books a Million, Gander Mountain and walked thru the mall and enjoyed the air conditioning.

On the way back we stopped for dinner in Calvert City at Willow Pond southern catfish another good restaurant, this heat is going to have to go, we have been eating in to many good restaurants and not getting enough exercise.

Patti's, Iron Kettle, and now Willow Pond.

Friday laundry in the morning at the campground, lunch and Wal-Mart around noon.
Saturday, August 25 2007 This morning 6:00, the bass boats were trolling for bass, must have been a tournament, it is hard to imagine how many they catch at 60+ mph.
It wasn't quit as hot today, washed the truck & trailer.

Land Between the Lakes

Tuesday, August 21, 2007 Today we went down the LBL (Land Between the Lakes) checked out one of the Forest Service campgrounds, Hillman Ferry campground (next time), there are lots of trails in the area and a paved trail from campground to the visitor center.

The bison and elk prairie the bison are smaller than the ones out west and we didn’t see any elk, then we went down the road a few miles to the planetarium at Golden Pond.

On the return trip we stopped for lunch at the Iron Kettle in Grand River part of the Patti Settlement.

We spent the rest of the afternoon in the air conditioning, another 100 degree day; I have never spent so much time indoors because of the heat and humidity. I have a lot of catching up to do when it finally breaks.

Wax to Canal

We traveled US62 all the way from Wax, KY to Grand River, KY a nice road thru typical rural country side.
Saw a yard full of roosters, had to pull off the road for a wide load after both of us came to a complete stop and I got out and surveyed the road shoulder, also saw a neat place that sold rusty metal.
Lots of older vehicles in this area.
Arrived around noon then had to look for another site where the dish would work, so we are in a nice open site without shade.
