Thursday West Point, Ga

This morning we went to visit Marlyn Farmer our next door neighbor who now lives about 20 miles down the road from here, close to Hamilton, Ga. I like the road name on the way to her house, Lick Skillet Rd. (that is more unique than Buczak Rd). This is a pretty area of Georgia and we had a nice visit.

R Shaefer Heard Campground, West Point, Ga

We arrived here a little after noon, set things up, then went to Wal-Mart. This is a nice COE park, the showers are a ways from site #7 but are worth the walk.
This campground has quite a few miles of good paved road and small hills within the park, I can get a easy 15 miles going across the dam and back.

Buckets Full

This afternoon a nice isolated thunder shower blew in from across the lake and it rained buckets, I know because I caught at least one, running off the awning. I am sure it made a few local peanut farmers happy.

Hardridge Creek, Al.

Arrived here yesterday and it is another great COE park.

This morning we rode to Eufaula, Alabama and bought some groceries. There are a lot of beautiful old homes and streets in Eufaula and also the downtown area was quite busy lots of small old stores, we were going to stop by Alatech for a factory tour.

The last American factory making condoms for Usaid sits anonymously in a pine-shaded industrial park here in Eufaula. Inside a modern, low-slung building owned by Alatech Healthcare, ingenious contraptions almost as long as a football field repeatedly dip 16,000 phallic-shaped bulbs into vats of latex, with the capacity to turn out a billion condoms a year.

But we didn't have time to fit it in to today's schedule.

Cotton Hill

These people were camped here at the campground, there mode of transportation was these amphibian planes. There were two planes one couple was from St George, Utah and the other from Canada. They had been at the Sun & Fun flyin in Lakeland, Fl, and were on their way home, stopping at different campgrounds, and left here for Gunther Lake, Al. They said people with planes that are not amphibians only have half a plane.
I don't think you could carry as many toys as I would need and it is back to sleeping in tents and air mattresses.
It was interesting talking to them.

Ft Gaines, Ga

After our daily morning of mild heart stimulation we went into Ft. Gaines picked up the mail at the post office, went by the dam, the movie theater and the opera house. On the way back to the campground we got some fuel and ate lunch at the gas station/grocery/restaurant which had an impressive selection of good southern food.

We went for our Mother's Day walk this morning, there were clouds so it was sum what cool. Made a big loop out the back, past the dam thu the park, into town and back to the campground.

At lunch time we drove to Jerry's Restaurant in downtown Chattahoochee for Mothers Day lunch. The food was very good Southern Cooking almost as good as Lem's mothers cooking.

The temperature is pushing 90 now

Round Two

Last night or early morning I felt something walking across my forehead. I turned on the light and noticed a few ants. So I got up, got my flashlight and started CSI ing it on the outside of the trailer. Thought I had sprayed all entry points, front jacks, back jacks, electric cord, water hose and satellite dish connection. But they found my metal table that my propane grill was sitting on with a hose running to the propane bottle in the trailer. So up the leg, across the grill and around the loop in the hose to the trailer and across my forehead.

Right now I am the winner, they are gone.

Excitement

This morning I had ants in my maple syrup. Yesterday I noticed a trail of ants going up the water hose and thought I had caught the problem before that many had entered, but they had gotten further than I thought.

I noticed other people in the campground having ant problems, but not me, guess again.

All i's under control again.

Eastbank Canpground, Ga

Arrived here around noon, stopped by Wal-Mart in Tallahassee on the way.

Good conections here air card shows 100%, as good as it gets.

Econfina the last 4 days

Sunday

Went for bike ride 8:00 am to US98 and back and not one car passed me, then went for a walk on one of ESP trails good trail but the deer flies were unmerciful the only thing that saved me was a bandana under my ball cap covering my ears and back of neck.

Saturday

I knew that the boat ramp at Econfina SP would be busy today, it was packed, and then I noticed a sign for the fishing tournament and $10,000 in prize money, guess that is a good reason.
I rode my bicycle out CR14 to US98 and back great road to ride on very little traffic, they are all at the boat ramp, you can tell a difference in the people here they wave and give you a wide berth.
Then I went for a walk on the Econfina SP land, walked about 4 miles, double track trails, non motorized traffic only, mostly grass, some sandy spots, varied Florida vegetation, there are more miles of trail than I could handle at one time.

Friday

Drove over to St Marks this morning some things have changed since we were there last time, still recognized a few things. We had a good lunch at the Riverside Café had to guard it from a female Raven, black bird or whatever when she would get within a couple of feet of my food I would give her the evil eye and she would fly off for a second or two then work her way back..
Stopped by the County Park in Newport where Buddy and I had stayed on a hunting trip, what a surprise, big improvements, all cleaned up, maybe it changes back to hunt camp mode in the Fall.

Thursday

Arrived at Econfina River Resort before noon at the end of CR14 about 5 miles from US98, good thing we had air conditioning because it was hot again.
The signal strength for the air card is to low to work, an indication of the remoteness
