We traveled on I-64 & Bluegrass Parkway, Western Kentucky Parkway and we missed a large portion of central Kentucky but we got here at our usual time for lunch.

We did get to travel US60 for a few miles coming and leaving Lexington, KY and a few miles before arriving at the park, Wax is a COE park and we are in a nice site B1 we have phone and satellite service but no PC connection.

The pastures around Lexington were note worthy, and the farms were extravagantly large.

We made reservations for Wednesday 10 am for the Grand Avenue tour of Mammoth Cave, the second tourist attraction in the US the first being Niagara Falls. There are over 350 miles of surveyed passageways, only about 12 miles are tourist suitable.

Today we went into town got fuel, groceries at Wal-Mart, connected to the internet got e-mail and ate lunch.

Wednesday, August 01, 2007

This morning we went to Mammoth Cave the back way from Wax and it is a pretty ride, crossed the Green River by ferry. The cave is mammoth but other than that it is not a pretty cave, a good walk 4 ½ mile walk on a hot day.

Thursday, August 02, 2007 Went to Bowling Green, headquarters for camping world the retail store was rather small, used book store, material store, lunch then came home.

Friday, August 03, 2007, we celebrated Sue’s birthday today and went to Leitchfield to do laundry, Post Office, Wal-Mart, the heat index of around 100. We saw Walter Kelly Bee Supply company a place that I had ordered things from 50 years ago.
There is a super fast WiFi connection here at the park if I go out the gate and the other side of the road.

Monday, August 06, 2007, we went to Cub Cave this morning it is about 5 miles from here. It is prettier than Mammoth Cave because of the formations. When we returned I backed over the satellite dish.

Tuesday, August 07, 2007, went to Bowling Green to Camping World and got a satellite dish, it another 100 degree day, on the way thru Mammoth Cave national park and across the Green River ferry must have seen a half dozen turkeys coming and going with long beards.

Wednesday, August 08, 2007 traveled down the SR88 to Horse Cave, Cave City saw Wigwam Motel the highlight of the trip ate lunch and were coming back via the Green River Ferry when we arrived it was closed so had to go back the way we came, the long way, Another 100 degree day.

Thursday, August 09, 2007 today we went to do the laundry in Litchfield early because of the heat and the non air conditioned Laundromat. Next we stopped by Wal-Mart for food, prescription and diesel fuel. Another 100+ day. Lots of deer and turkeys around here and it is a pretty area of the country rolling and some good hills

Friday, August 10, 2007 went for a walk around the campground and back to the air conditioned camper it is only suppose to be in the lower 90tes today

Olive Hill, KY

We went to Olive Hill and got a few groceries and did the laundry.

I was walking down the sidewalk from the laundry and noticed they were having a concealed weapons class, peeking in the window there seemed to be at least 12 people taking the class. According to http://www.city-data.com/ the town of Olive Hill has a population of 1821 and a very low crime rate. So my conclusion is that either every one carries a concealed weapon and that keeps the crime rate down or everyone watches the news and they are very scared.

Pioneer Encampment

1812 reenactment all this week at the state park a lot of different talents spinning, weaving, horn smithing, frontier music, etc

Went on a cave tour explaining how the mined and processed the dirt enriched with bat excrement to extract saltpeter. One of the main ingredients in black powder and if it weren't for the volunteers mining the saltpeter we would be speaking with a British accent.

Bulltown WV to Carter Cave KY

The trip from Bulltown to Carters Caves State Resort Park in Olive Hill Kentucky was uneventful. We ran over some fresh paint from the lines being painted on 64, We thought it was lime rock until we tried to wash it off.

Stopped along the way and saw Bobby the last time we saw each other was in the late 60's. I don't think we should go as long until next time.

We have cell phone service here, Internet, and satellite for TV, also new washer & dryers here at Carter Cave we are in site 85.

West Virginia

Monday we arrived at Robert Craig COE Park at usual time, around noon, came in the recommended way, not my shortcut that I used last year, the road surface was better but there were just as many curves and hills.
The air card does not work here we have a strong signal but evidently Alltel doesn’t handle data here.

Tuesday we had to find a Post Office so we road over the hill to Keyser, will be going back the end of the week to pickup the mail.

Friday, we made 2 trips to Keyser today, 1st to do laundry, post office, Wal-Mart and when leaving Wal-Mart the air wasn’t coming out the air vents so stopped by the Ford place, they said they could look at it at 1:00. so we went back over the mountain and 2nd trip we came back at 1:00, it was some kind of vacuum switch which they didn’t have in stock, so will get it fixed at next Ford dealer down the road or next week or the next.
You can tell it is Friday there have been only about 6 max. sites occupied all week until now and now ¾ of the 80 plus sites are occupied.

Saturday, July 14, 2007, beautiful day

Monday, July 16, 2007, We have arrived at Bulltown COE Campground on Burnsville Lake in central WV close to ???? it took a little longer today because of the back roads and there aren’t ant straight roads in WV. Sue said it took a lot longer (7 hours).
Saw a funny sign that someone had borrowed and affixed it to their garage it said “Orlando” and on the next line it said “Disney land left lane””
We have full hookups here but no cell phone, satellite, no TV, but we have running water, sewer & electric.

Wednesday, we rode to Sutton which is about 10 miles away to do the laundry, ops the laundry is closed on Wednesday, toured the dam for Sutton lake and stopped by Kroger’s also stopped along the way to use someone’s Internet connection.

Thursday, July 19, 2007 We have met a same aged couple camped across the way George & Cora, she grew up in Sutton and lived up on the mountain, as a kid she it took her an hour to walk off the mountain to school and an hour and a half to walk home until the eight grade. This evening we are dining here Cora in making a pot of brown beans and I am cooking corn bread.

Sleep Over

The boys spent the night at the campsite, cooked hot dogs over the fire and sat around until dark to tell ghost stories.

Gambrill State Park, Frederick, MD

We moved to Gambrill from Greenbrier this morning this park is only a few miles from Eddies new house, convient and a very nice small park 5 electric sites, the rest room & showers that are a 9 out of 10. We are in site # 22 the best site in the park.
There are to many deer around here, you see a lot of them sleeping along the highway, or maybe there are just too many cars.
